Street sweeping is provided by the Public Works Operations Division. The Division’s three regenerative-air street sweepers are operated over the City’s 459 curb miles of paved streets. Their primary objective is reducing the amount of trash and pollution particulates that enter our storm drainage system and waterways.
The City has been divided into ten maintenance districts (pdf). From February through October roads in each maintenance district are swept one time per month. From November through January the sweepers are working in conjunction with the leaf pick-up crews and may not be performing routine sweeping. Additionally, winter weather may interrupt sweeping services.
The following tips will assist our crew in providing optimal sweeping service on your street:
- Remove garbage cans, yard debris receptacles, and recycling carts, from the street as soon as possible once trash has been collected.
- Do not place basketball hoops in the street.
- Whenever possible, park vehicles in the driveway or garage.
- Refrain from blowing yard clippings, or sweeping debris, into the street.
- Keep branches of street trees trimmed to above 13 feet over the street to allow the sweepers to sweep against the curb. (vegetation flyer pdf)
