All participants of the Hillsboro Police Department’s Youth Peer Court must attend a Conflict, Choices and Consequences Decision Making workshop. The workshop is a two-hour class taught within HPD’s West Precinct Training Room starting at 6:00pm and ending at 8:00pm.
The workshop utilizes activities and discussions to focus on the juvenile’s decision making processes. Juveniles must weigh their conflicts and the associated consequences, and understand the importance of making the right choices. The Conflict, Choices and Consequences Decision Making workshop is free of charge for all participants.
The Washington County Substance Abuse Family Education (S.A.F.E.) Program is a presentation provided once per month by Washington County’s Juvenile Department. Teens are expected to attend the presentation with at least one parent or guardian. The program fee must be paid by cash or money order only. Attendance is limited to individuals & families referred by approved agencies only; the program is held within the auditorium of the Public Services Building.
The Washington County Juvenile Department offers a Theft Information on the second Wednesday, every other month at 3:00pm and last until 4:30-5:00pm in the Public Service Building Auditorium. The class addresses the consequences of stealing and explores the impact of this behavior. Topics discussed include juvenile records, civil fines, protective factors to prevent further criminal behavior, risk factors, empathy development, and community resources. The goal is to provide education and information that will help youth make better choices and reduce delinquency in the community. Resources are available for Spanish speaking families.
