If you have had property seized for safekeeping or as evidence, you should have been given a property receipt at the time of seizure. Outlined on the back of the receipt is information pertinent to retrieving your property. Each receipt has a receipt number in the top left corner and/or a case number in the top right corner that you should reference.

Safekeeping property and found property will be held for 90 days. Known property owners will be notified by mail, when possible, to retrieve their property. It is the owner's responsibility to provide accurate contact information or alert the evidence technician to changes in contact status.
Annual registrations and change of address are accomplished by appointment only. Those who have not made an appointment may be subject to a wait while an officer is called in to take the report.
Those with a change of address are required to provide written proof of an address change within 10 days of a move. Accepted documents are:
- Statements or bills reflecting the new address
- Mail received at the new residence, addressed to owner
- Paperwork from parole officer
- Driver's license or ID card

The Property & Evidence Unit seeks to offer professional and highly efficient services to the public through the return or disposal of property while maintaining the integrity of evidence for court. An essential component of the department, this unit provides for the security and control of seized, recovered, and safekeeping property.

With advanced training in property room management and crime scene processing, this unit is where prosecution of a case begins. Evidence collection, the storage and preparation of evidence for court, forensic examination of items and, above all, maintenance and integrity of evidence leads to successful prosecution. Continued education and timely use of knowledge both in our lab and at crime scenes helps promote public safety and awareness of technology and its application to law enforcement.
