The Dangerous Building program has enjoyed long term success through the cooperative efforts of local property owners and the City of Hillsboro.
The program identifies any vacant, unoccupied or abandoned building or structure which is not reasonably secured against uninvited entry or which constitutes a fire hazard or is otherwise in a dangerous, unsightly or blighted condition which is detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of the public. Once a residence is designated as “dangerous,” the owner has the option to renovate the building in compliance with local codes and community standards. The owner may also choose to demolish or deconstruct the building for salvage. If the owner is unable, or refuses, to renovate or demolish the dangerous building; the City may elect to demolish the building and lien the property for the costs incurred.
To date, all property owners have taken the initiative to improve or remove the hazardous buildings. Click on the “Completed Demolitions” link below. “Before” and “After” photographs are posted. You’ll be pleased to see examples of dilapidated homes that once attracted only the criminal element now attract families looking for a place to call “home.”
