The Hillsboro Citizen's Police Academy is a ten-week program designed
as an educational tool that facilitates communication and an understanding
of the police role in the community while encouraging partnerships between
police and citizens.
Our intent is to acquaint our citizens with the police, and our police
with our citizens. With better understanding it becomes easier for police
and citizens to find realistic solutions to neighborhood problems.
The sessions include information about fraud and identity theft, crime
prevention, street gangs, narcotics, volunteer programs, patrol and criminal
investigation, firearms and use of deadly force issues and demonstrations
by the the Emergency Response Team and the K-9 unit.
In addition, the academy tours the Washington County Jail facility and
the 9-1-1 Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency.
The Citizen's Academy is held twice a year. The academy begins the 3rd
Thursday in March, and the 3rd Thursday in September.
