The Hillsboro Police Citizens' Academy is a FREE, twelve week program designed as an educational tool to facilitate communication and understanding of the police role in the community, while encouraging partnerships between law enforcement and citizens.
Sometimes people simply see a uniform in the midst of stressful circumstances. The Academy is an avenue for officers and citizens to interact in a positive, low-key environment, providing an opportunity to see beyond the badge.
Classes will look at the budget, explain the recruitment, hiring and training process, explore criminal and public records law, patrol functions and investigations, use of force, tactical negotiations, officer involved shootings, traffic safety, community policing, crime prevention, code enforcement, gang culture, evidence, the K9 program and more. It will include lectures, demonstrations, and hands on learning.
There are two optional tours:
- 9-1-1 Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (WCCCA)
- Washington County Jail
The Academy also showcases unique and specialized volunteer opportunities with Hillsboro Police.
The Citizens' Academy is held on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. beginning the first Thursday in February. |
Class size is limited.
Applications must be received two weeks prior to the first class.
