Who can garden & How do I get a plot?

Because of the limited number of plots available, registration is limited to Hillsboro residents only. Plot registration is through Hillsboro Parks & Recreation. New gardeners much register and pay in person (4400 NW 229th Ave.), but renewing gardeners can register over the phone (503-681-6120).

How much does a plot cost and what does it pay for?

20 x 20 - $50/Year
10 x 20 - $30/Year
15 x 20 - $40/Year
6 x 12 (raised bed) - $20/Year
There are a limited amount of church plots available free of charge for those who qualify.

Garden plot fees are used to pay for the water used by the gardeners and provides some funding to help maintain the tool shed located onsite at each garden.

How can I get on the waiting list?

Available plots are given out on a first-come-first serve basis to those on the waiting list. To get on the waiting list, call 503-681-6120. Please provide the following information when you call: what garden site you are interested in, plot size preference, name, email, and phone number. The average time on a waiting list before getting a plot is one year - so get on the waiting list soon!

What is appropriate to grow in my garden plot?

Vegetables, herbs, flowers, and small fruit plants for home consumption and donations. No large structures or trees are allowed.

Can I share a plot with somebody?

Gardeners can partner up with a neighbor or friend to share the work. The plot has to be registered under one person's name and that person will sign the garden contract and is responsible for the assigned plot.

How do I go about watering my garden?

Water access in the gardens is available from May - October. There is approximately one hosebib per four garden plots and each hose bib can accommodate two hoses at a time. Gardeners must be present to water at all times and irrigation timers are not permitted.
