Greg Nelson - Fire Chief |

Fire Chief Greg Nelson is a veteran Hillsboro firefighter. He joined the organization in 1980 as a firefighter and rose through the ranks to his current position. During that time, he developed firefighting protocols for high rise and large capacity building firefighting, managed the conflagration program that sends Hillsboro firefighters to assist with major wild land fires across the state, and trained recruit firefighters. He was promoted to Fire Chief in April 2011.

Mark Prince - Deputy Chief - Operations/Fire Marshal |

Deputy Chief Prince is a fire service veteran who began his fire service career as a volunteer in 1985 with the Gaston Fire District. Chief Prince accepted a position with the City of Hillsboro in May 2006 and currently serves as Operations Chief.
Chief Prince possesses an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science and is a Nationally Registered and State of Oregon certified EMT Paramedic. He has also attended a number of Fire Service Institute classes and is pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Service Administration. Mark is a qualified Type II Incident Safety Officer with the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal Incident Management Teams; a Liaison Officer assigned to the Oregon Department of Forestry Fire Team #3 and has been deployed to numerous all hazards incidents throughout the State.
Chief Prince is a current member and Past President of the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association, Past member and Vice Chair of the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training, Oregon Public Safety Memorial Fund Board and past Chair of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Fire Service Policy Committee. Additionally, he has served on numerous committees and task forces representing the best interests of Hillsboro and Oregon’s Fire Service.

Scott Malone - Deputy Chief - Administration/EMS |

Administrative/EMS Chief Scott Malone has been in the fire service since 1993 and joined Hillsboro Fire and Rescue in March of 2010 as a Logistics Chief. He was promoted to Administrative Chief in August 2011. Prior to coming to Hillsboro, he had risen through the ranks at Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue as a Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, and served his last eight years there as a Lieutenant. Scott has been an Incident Safety Officer, Incident Management Team Member, Tactical EMS Liaison, and Quality Improvement Team Member. He holds specialized certifications as a Nationally Registered Paramedic, National Fire Protection Association Vehicle Extrication Technician, Structural Collapse, Tactical Emergency Medical Support, and Advanced Incident Command System. He received a Life Saving Award in 1996 and Unit Citations in 2000, 2002, and 2005.
Chief Malone has earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from Pierce College with Honors, an Advanced Paramedic Certification from Oregon Health Sciences University, and is currently completing his Fire Science Administration Bachelors at Eastern Oregon University. He has been involved in the community as a Business Committee member for Emmaus Christian School, served as Operations Director for his church, and was a Team Leader with Medical Teams International, responding to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. He is responsible for all Fire Department facility, apparatus and equipment acquisition, repair and upgrades.

Storm Smith - Division Manager - Prevention/Education Outreach |

Storm Smith has been with Hillsboro Fire and Rescue since 2008 when he was hired as the Public Information/Education Officer after serving nine years with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue where he was a Community Liaison. He has extensive experience in fire safety public outreach, media relations and public relations. He now leads a group of nine professionals who ensure that public accessible buildings maintain fire and life safety features. They also provide fire and life safety training to the public, provide continuing education to medical response teams for local industry, and investigate fire cause and origin of all fires. Part of this work Prior to entering the fire service, Storm had a 20+ year career in broadcast news and video production in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
He served as Incident Information Officer for two years on the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Type-2 Incident Management Team. He also teaches basic Public Information Officer and Type-3 Incident Management Team PIO classes around the state.

Scott McDaniel - Division Chief - Training |

Training Chief Scott McDaniel began his fire service career in 1986 when he was employed by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. For ten years, he split his time between working on wild land fires in Santa Cruz County and providing structural fire protection and emergency medical services for San Mateo County Fire. During that time, he responded on several major incidents including the Pebble Beach Fire and the Loma Prieta Earthquake, the epicenter of which was only a few miles from his childhood home.
Chief McDaniel joined Hillsboro Fire and Rescue in 1996 and subsequently became a certified Paramedic. He promoted through the ranks from Firefighter to Engineer to Lieutenant, which he held for the seven years prior to his promotion to Training Chief in February 2010. His primary interest has been in the Technical Rescue side of the fire service.

Nathan Leek - Division Chief - Logistics |

Division Chief Nathan Leek began his fire service as a volunteer for Corvallis Fire and Rescue in 1993. He was hired by Hillsboro Fire Department in 1995. During his career he has held the positions of Firefighter, Senior Fire Medic, and Engineer. He has served as a Lieutenant for the past seven years. Nathan is certified as an EMT-Intermediate and has been the program director of the departments Vehicle Extrication Program. He is a member of the State USAR team and holds many certifications in the areas of Technical Rescue and Incident Command.
Chief Leek has received an Associates Degree in Fire Science from Portland Community College, as well as a Bachelors Degree with a major of Fire Administration and a minor of Business from Eastern Oregon University. Nathan has been very involved in program development in the areas of Truck Operations, and Technical Rescue for Hillsboro, and he developed and delivered Hillsboro’s new Firefighter Recruit Academy.

Battalion Chief Scott Magers has been in the Fire Service since 1980 and joined Hillsboro Fire and Rescue in 2008. Chief Magers started his fire service career with the McMinnville Fire Department as a student/volunteer firefighter. He moved up through the ranks in that organization and left as a Captain in 1991 to work for the Redmond Fire Department. In 1992, he became the Assistant Chief of Redmond Fire Department overseeing the Operations Division of a multi-station combination fire department, which included a commercial airport and a State of Oregon Regional Hazardous Materials team. In 1998 Chief Magers returned to McMinnville Fire Department to become the Assistant Chief of that department again overseeing the Operations Division which included a transporting ambulance service.
Chief Magers holds many certifications which include being nationally certified as Fire Officer 4, Oregon State Paramedic and a Type 2 Incident Commander. Chief Magers received his education at Chemeketa Community College, Portland Community College, Western Oregon University and the National Fire Academy. Additionally, he has been awarded two Unit Citations while serving with Redmond Fire Department. Chief Magers is a Member of the State Fire Marshals Incident Management teams where he serves as a Type 2 Incident Commander of the Blue Team. He is a member of the International Fire Chiefs Association and the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association.

Brian Washam - Battalion Chief / C Shift Duty Chief |

Battalion Chief Brian Washam joined Hillsboro Fire and Rescue in 1999, promoting to Lieutenant where he served in that position for five years.. He was promoted Battalion Chief in 2011. Chief Washam holds A.A.S degrees in Fire Suppression and Para-medicine. Additionally, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Service Administration in 2009.
Chief Washam has assisted with CERT, coordinated Intel’s MRT training, and developed the fire department’s current Lieutenant promotional training program. |
