Hillsboro Plein Air 2013

Artists from across the region are invited to enjoy the open air painting experience at the 7th Annual Hillsboro Plein Air Competition.

Painting begins on Friday, September 20 and ends on Saturday, September 21.

Event Highlights Include:

  • Vibrant scenes and varied landscapes of Hillsboro to inspire painters of all levels and mediums.
  • Figurative "Quick Draw" events with models attired in historically themed costumes.
  • Artist Reception and Award Ceremony, with amazing prizes
  • Gallery Exhibition of the artwork created during the event at the Walters Cultural Arts Center

What is Plein Air?

Plein Air is a term that originates from the French “en plein air” which translates as “in the open.” The technique was made popular by the French and American Impressionist painters of the late 1800s and describes paintings that have been created outdoors instead of in a studio or by photographic references.
