

In mid-2009 the City was awarded a US Department of Energy (DOE) EECBG grant in the amount of $924,700 via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The City has completed the grant along with the following projects:
- Installation of a 21kWh solar array on the Jones Farm Fire Station
- Completion of draft facility energy management plan
- Completion of the City greenhouse gas inventory and tracking of facility energy use data
- Installation of a 60kW solar array on the ITF building
- Development of the Hillsboro ITF Bikepark facility
- Completion of timing upgrades to all City-managed street signals, improvement to timing at 185th and Baseline, installation of In-Sync video detection timing system on NE Cornell between Brookwood and Butler, and other timing measures
- Removal of the City flashing crossing beacons from the electric grid and transition to solar power
- Civic Center energy efficiency controls and upgrades
Funds are also being utilized for development of a community Climate Action Plan to focus community-wide energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts.
