SNOW & ICE REMOVAL:

Winter Storm Response Plan

In response to and during inclement weather conditions, such as high winds, snow or freezing rain, the Public Works Operations crews will work quickly to clear debris and prepare the roadwayImage of school bus on snow covered road. for vehicle travel along all primary arterial and collector streets in the city.  Such streets include Main Street, Jackson School Road, Minter Bridge Road, and other priority thoroughfares. The crews also treat special interest areas such as near fire stations, police stations, hospitals, and some areas with hills, dips, bridges, and/or curves.
Depending on the nature of the event, priority streets are treated using one the following three methods:

  • Application of anti-icing solution (magnesium chloride)
  • Application of sand/gravel
  • Plowed to remove snow and ice

Prior to events, the City communicates with Washington County and ODOT to coordinate treatment of major routes within the City such as Oak Street, Baseline Street, Cornell Road, Brookwood Parkway, etc.
The attached maps indicate our priority arterial collector streets, and special interest areas treated by the City crews. Click on the map to bring up each section’s treatment plan.
Residential, neighborhood or minor roadways will not be cleared until priority roadways are treated.
It is the responsibility of adjacent homeowners, businesses, and/or tenants to clear debris, snow, and ice from sidewalks and pathways.
