Beginning November 17, the City will initiate the 2012 annual curbside street tree leaf pick-up program. The City of Hillsboro’s leaf program helps keep our streets clean and reduces flooding caused by leaves clogging the storm drains. Please print and post the leaf pick-up map and schedule (see the links below) in a handy spot to remind you when to be ready for our curbside pick-up on your street. If your street tree leaves are not in the street on the scheduled date, we will not have the opportunity to provide you with this curbside service. Emergencies, severe weather, or light/heavy leaf fall may cause the crews to get off schedule. Please be ready on the scheduled dates, we will attempt to follow the schedule as much as possible.
We ask that citizens not use bags for curbside pick-up. Please have loose street tree leaves at curbside on the first day of your scheduled pick-up. Loose leaves should be raked into a windrow, 18” away from the curb to allow storm water to drain to the storm drains. Keep leaf windrows less than 3’ high. To be most efficient, we ask citizens not to park vehicles, place refuse bins and recycle totes on or near the leaf windrows. All items other than tree leaves will be left at curbside. Leaves from your yard may be disposed in your yard debris bins or hauled in bags to the City’s leaf disposal location at the Fairground Sports Complex on 28th Ave, next to the tennis courts.
To give citizens an option for yard leaf disposal, when you have too many to fit into your yard debris bins, the City is again providing a free leaf disposal drop-off at the Fairground Sports Complex on 28th, next to the tennis courts on November 17th, December 1st, December 15th and on January 12th between 9:30am and 3:30pm. This service is to help reduce the amount of leaves that are raked or blown into the street from property owner’s yards. Reducing the amount of leaves that end up in the street helps mitigate potential flooding when storm drains get clogged with leaves. Biodegradable bags are preferred, however if you bring your leaves in plastic bags, we will ask that you dump out the leaves and take the plastic bags with you. There is no charge to drop your leaves off at the disposal site although in exchange for the free disposal, we are requesting a donation of non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Oregon Food Bank.
