NE 28TH AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS:

About:

NE 28th Ave is a narrow, two-lane street, with few sidewalks and no shoulders or bike lanes.  The current traffic volume is around 10,000 cars per day.  The area around the roadway is a mix of homes and businesses.  It is also next to the Washington County Fairgrounds. The MAX light rail tracks cross 28th as well.  Along 28th Ave, there are several intersections with poor geometry and some intersections are close to the MAX light rail.  A traffic signal is also needed at the intersection of 28th and NE Veterans Drive/NE Grant St.

The City is using a “complete streets” approach to create a street for use by all modes of transportation.  The traditional way of designing streets focused on getting cars and trucks down the road.  The “complete streets” approach promotes safe access and travel for all users, regardless of the mode of travel, age or mobility.  The City sees this project providing pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit users, the ability to safely travel, access homes and businesses, and cross the street.

This is an existing residential community.  Providing a safe, walkable and bicycle friendly neighborhood along an arterial street corridor is a primary goal of this project.
