Hillsboro Police Mediation Program

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a confidential, voluntary process through which the parties in dispute resolve their own conflicts with the assistance of an impartial third party, the mediator. Image of HPD Mediation logo.

The disputants create mutually acceptable resolutions through improved communication and collaboration.

A mediator does not act as a judge, arbitrator, advocate, or give advice. Rather, the mediator helps disputants come to a decision on the issues, brainstorm resolution ideas, and write up a settlement agreement.

The process is one of personal empowerment and mutual recognition.

Why Mediate?

  • Mediation seeks to resolve disputes to the satisfaction of all parties, while preserving positive relationships.
  • Mediation is conducted by skilled, impartial mediators.
