CADET PROGRAM

The Hillsboro Police Department Cadet Program is a civilian group of volunteers between the ages of 15 and 20 who are interested in law enforcement careers. HPD Cadets observe and assist in various details under direct supervision of sworn officers. Cadets get hands on experience and training by participating in police ride-alongs, patrol and traffic details and assisting with various community events such as the Hillsboro Air Show, the Washington County Fair and the Fourth of July Parade.

Cadet Eligibility Standards
  • Be 15-20 years of age at the time of application.
  • Be a high school graduate or be a student attending high school and maintaining a 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Possess or have the ability to immediately secure a valid driver's license or permit, and maintain a good driving record.
  • Not have been convicted of any crime or violation classifiable as a Class A misdemeanor or higher.
  • Successfully complete an application form oral interview, background check and drug screen.
Cadet Training

Once accepted into the program, Cadets receive 11 weeks of training at the Regional Cadet Academy. The Cadet Academy is a condensed version of the Oregon State Police Academy which is attended by regular police officers. The classes are held on consecutive Saturdays. Cadets are trained in report writing, drug investigations, fire arms, defensive tactics, building searches, and other areas of police work.

Cadet Recruitment

Hillsboro Police Cadet Recruitment is held once a year beginning in September. To be placed on a list to receive an application packet, please complete the brochure below and return to Hillsboro Police Department.
