HILLSBORO BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN PROGRAM: (2000 - 2004)

Connecting our Community

The Hillsboro Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force was established in November 2000.  This committee was created to serve in an advisory capacity by providing feedback, ideas, and assistance to City staff and elected officials.  Community member involvement in the Task Force embraced the Hillsboro 2020 vision of “Connecting our Community”.  Task Force members included Hillsboro residents from eight neighborhood planning areas, recreational and commuting cyclists, walkers, elderly and disabled representatives, and members of the Hispanic community.  The Task Force was supported by City staff from Planning, Engineering, Parks and Police departments, as well as transportation consultants.

The City and Hillsboro Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force determined that a more comprehensive program was needed to effectively achieve connectivity and provide cycling and walking options in a safe manner.  The Task Force made significant strides towards identifying bicycle and pedestrian pathways, prioritizing projects, and researching funding sources.

The last meeting of the Hillsboro Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force took place in November 2004.  In 2006, the City of Hillsboro Transportation Committee requested the formation of a Transportation Advisory Committee made up of representative from all modes of transportation and other stakeholders.  Details of formation and the role of this new Advisory Committee are currently being developed.
