What We Do
City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation inspires and expands the minds and horizons of citizens of all ages by enabling access to recreation, nature, culture, and adventure. The department is proud to provide the community with more than 1,500 acres of park land and open spaces, an array of recreational facilities, and a multitude of recreational, educational and cultural programs. Offerings include:
- 24 developed parks, seven specialty areas (including the Rock Creek Trail and the Harold Eastman Rose Garden), two community gardens, nine undeveloped parks, more than 91 open spaces, and Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve;
- nine recreational facilities, including the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex/Hillsboro Stadium, Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center, and the Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center; and
- hundreds of programs for all ages including recreational, educational, youth development and cultural classes, adult sports leagues, and elementary and middle school after-school programs.

Who We Are
Hillsboro Parks & Recreation is a department of the City of Hillsboro and is governed by a Parks & Recreation Commission consisting of seven Hillsboro residents, and ultimately the City Council. The Parks & Recreation Commission, under the general direction of the City Council, establishes policy for management of Parks & Recreation facilities and activities. Hillsboro Parks & Recreation has approximately 70 full-time and hundreds of part-time and seasonal employees who are all committed to providing exceptional services to the community. The department is overseen by a director and assistant director, and staff focus on six specific areas: acquisition and development, facilities, arts & culture, recreation services, community resources, and parks maintenance/operations.
