| Q: |
How can my volunteer group get involved? |
| A: |
We also have options for volunteer groups that want to support a single event.
- CERT final exercise: For our CERT classes, we stage a final exercise that includes a disaster scenario. We use volunteers with fake injuries to simulate the disaster "victims." This can be a one-time volunteer opportunity, and you will be helping the class members put their new skills to the test.
- Disaster preparedness events: We host a large event on the Civic Center Plaza in September with disaster preparedness information booths and children's actitivites. We do "just in time" training the morning of the event, which usually lasts from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
- Host an event for your group.. We can provide the speaker, or we can provide you with the handouts and training.
Contact us to discuss the particulars.

| Q: |
Why do I need to prepare for at least 72 hours? |
| A: |
When disaster strikes, we may not be able to get to your neighborhood to check on you for a variety of reasons: an increase in our calls for service, damage to or blocked roads, or damage to our own facilities, equipment and personnel. By preparing yourself, your family, and your neighborhood to assist each other during a disaster, you can be self-reliant for at least the first few days of a disaster. |
