The City’s Economic Development team provides support for existing and new businesses by promoting awareness of economic development programs, services and incentives offered by the City.  Services include targeted marketing and business recruitment, real estate site searches, assistance with the permit and building process, business advocacy for policy and implementation tools, regulatory assistance, and other support needed to help businesses thrive.

What We Do

• Business Development - The Economic Development Department (EDD) takes the lead on business retention, expansion and recruitment activities, and supports key industries of vital importance to the city’s current and future economy.  These key industries include renewable technologies (e.g. solar manufacturing, fuel cells), semiconductor/microelectronics and biosciences. 

• Regulatory Assistance - EDD works with the State of Oregon, Port of Portland and other regional and city agencies to provide assistance and remove regulatory road blocks for companies seeking to relocate or expand in Hillsboro.  We help companies navigate the regulatory process: understanding regulations, permit requirements and coordination of meetings with state and local agencies to ensure a smooth and timely development process.

• Business Advocacy - EDD staff participates in the City’s discussion of policy and business climate issues and provides research and recommendations on city policies of concern to the business community and residents. The team is primarily responsible for the relationships with the local business community.  We act as an advocate for businesses, promoting transportation, telecommunications and other infrastructure improvements in anticipation of business needs; and provide technical assistance in a variety of ways.
