Economic Development

"I think that when you combine the other factors, flat land, available water and sewer, trained work force, and several existing clusters with a community that has an impressive list of projects completed on schedule and under budget that Hillsboro is distinguished in North America."

-Bill Reid, Principal at Johnson Reid LLC, a consulting firm specializing in economic analysis and land use issues

Hillsboro, located in Washington County, is a well-planned, growing community about 18 miles west of downtown Portland.  Once a small farming community and government center, Hillsboro has developed into an economically diverse city of over 80,000 residents and is the Civic Auditorium 5th largest city in Oregon.  While a large concentration of high technology related firms are located here, agriculture remains a steady and vital industry to the area.  Wineries, crops, and nursery stock thrive on the surrounding area's fertile farmland.  With a goal of economic diversity in a managed growth environment, Hillsboro will continue to prosper and be a major competitor in the global marketplace.
Residents enjoy the convenience of being 30 minutes by car from downtown Portland, 60 minutes to the Oregon Coast, and a short drive to recreational fun such as golf courses, wineries, boating, fishing, hunting, and the scenic countryside.  The Jackson Bottom Westland Preserve, a 710 acre wildlife preserve located within the city limits, provides education and recreational opportunities for visitors and residents.  In addition, outdoor markets featuring local produce and artisians are a regular attraction.
