Brief History |
The City Council established the CIAC in April, 1977 through passage of Ordinance No. 2793. Originally, the CIAC consisted of the Planning Commission. However, in August, 1978 the Council decided to expand the CIAC to include two representatives from each neighborhood and two at-large representatives from each planning area. |

General Description |
The Citizen Involvement Advisory Committee is to conduct a program that will provide for adequate notice on citizen involvement activities; advanced information on matters under consideration; and opportunities for citizen participation as determined by the CIAC. |

Qualifications |
- Must reside in one of eight planning subareas (Committee is composed of at least two members from each subarea, two members at large and such other members, including business representatives, that may be deemed appropriate by the City Council)
|
- Some knowledge or experience in citizen involvement is helpful, as is experience or knowledge in communication or advertising
|
- All members must reside within or adjacent to the City of Hillsboro planning area
|

Duties |
1. Assisting in implementation of a citizen involvement process to assure that land use decisions are reflective of factual information and of the desires and needs of the citizens of the Hillsboro planning area |
2. Designing and implementing communication programs to inform the citizens of the Hillsboro planning area of the opportunity to participate in all phases of the planning process |
3. Helping to educate citizenry on planning matters so they are capable of effective participation in the planning process |
4. Monitoring citizen participation to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs, and revising the programs as necessary to ensure an adequate level of citizen involvement |
5. Conduct a City Citizen Involvement Program that provides individual public involvement programs for plan revisions and major plan amendments to the Comprehensive Plan |
