Brief History 

The Board of Appeals was established in 1969, and re-established under the State Structural and Fire and Life Safety Code through adoption of Ordinance No. 2653 in June, 1974.  The Board assumed an additional role through adoption of the Fire Code as Ordinance No. 2861 in January, 1978.

 

General Description

The Building Code Board of Appeals hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the Building Official relative to the application and interpretation of the building codes and amendments thereto.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be well versed in construction methods and materials
  • Must have substantial knowledge of Building and Fire Codes and their applications

 

Length of Term

1 year (expires January 1st)

 

Duties

1.     Determination as to alternate materials and methods of construction

2.     Hearing appeals from the decision of the Building Official on interpretations of the provisions of the Building Code

3.     Hearing appeals from permit denials or in action by the Fire Chief related to provisions of the Fire Code

4.     Hearing appeals on the question of jurisdiction of the Fire Code on a given matter

5.     Hearing appeals from the decision of the Fire Chief on interpretations regarding the provisions of the Fire Code
