Councilor Olga Acuña was appointed to the City Council in January 2008 to fill a vacancy created by a resignation. She was honored to be chosen for the position and humbled by the faith and confidence others placed in her. She accepted the position because she wants to give back to her community and to advocate for equitable structures and services for everyone living in Hillsboro. Olga was re-elected to serve on the Council in 2009.
Olga wants to be role model for other Hispanic community members so they see that their contributions will be valued if they are willing to give of their time.
She has lived in Hillsboro since 1980 and has always been involved in the community. Olga served on the planning committee for Liberty High School, was chosen to begin the Office of Hispanic Outreach in the Hillsboro School District and has served on the Hillsboro 2020 Vision Implementation Committee. In addition, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 23rd Annual Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Olga graduated from Glencoe High School, and obtained her undergraduate degree from OSU. She completed her master's degree in Special Education at PSU and then later completed her school administration credential at Lewis and Clark College. Currently, Olga works as an assistant principal at Hillsboro High School.
