Councilor Ed Dennis was appointed to the City Council in November 2001. He was elected to his position in 2002 and again in 2006. He is a member of the Transportation Committee. Ed advocated for a Transportation Utility Fee to deal with the backlog of street maintenance and Hillsboro’s need for improved sidewalks and bicycle paths, and was active in the Public Safety Local Option Tax campaign.
Ed has been active as an English as a Second Language teacher at Portland Community College and St. Matthews Catholic Church. He has also been a member of the Hillsboro Sister City Association and the Washington County Community Development Block Grant Policy Advisory Board. In addition, he has participated as a coach for the Hillsboro Youth Soccer Association and served as a leader for Stand For Children, an organization dedicated to serving the needs of children.
Ed and his wife have two children and have lived in Hillsboro since 1999. He earned his bachelor of arts in History with a minor in Politics from Western Oregon University and is currently enrolled in the Executive Leadership Program for Educators offered by the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Councilor Dennis is the Deputy Superintendent for the Oregon Department of Education.
