Councilor Darell Lumaco was elected to the City Council in November 2010. He believes that the quality of a town depends on the participation of its residents, and that Hillsboro is the vibrant, progressive city that it is today because of the citizen-leaders it has had in the past. He wants to help continue the positive momentum by providing opportunities for job creation, expanded housing and safe streets, along with an expanding network of sidewalks, bike paths and parks.
Darell has lived in Hillsboro since 1984. An active member of the community, he has served on the Hillsboro Boys’ Baseball Association, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Hillsboro 2020 Vision Task Force, the Hillsboro 2020 Vision Implementation Committee and multiple other task forces for projects varying from the extension of light rail to the City to the creation of the Civic Center Plaza.
He is a current member of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Oregon Medical Association, Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology and the Tuality Healthcare Board of Directors.
Darell graduated from Cle Elum High School in Washington, and obtained his undergraduate degree from Central Washington University. He completed his doctoral degree at the University of Washington in Seattle. Darell works as a physician at, and is partner/owner of, the Hillsboro Eye Clinic in downtown Hillsboro. He and his wife JoAnn have two sons and three grandchildren.
