Spoken Word: Who Rescued Whom? The Animal-Human Relationship
with Deborah Wood (pictured left in a photo from The Oregonian, 12/9/10)
Deborah Wood is the Animal Services Manager of the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter and former "Pet Talk" columnist for The Oregonian. Tonight, she will talk about the unique relationship between humans and our companion animals, highlighting notable animal-human relationships in art and literature over the centuries. She will also discuss her career trajectory, with a focus on the Bonnie L. Hays shelter. She'll shed light on the question all pet adopters eventually ask themselves, "Who Rescued Whom?"

Spoken Word: From Traditional to Contemporary Native Artists with Pat Gold
Pat Courtney Gold is a descendent of the Wasco Nation, a Native American culture with a 12,000 year history. An accomplished fiber artist and basket weaver, Ms. Gold is also an expert on the tradition and evolution of Native art and craft. She will present examples of traditional Native art forms including clothing, jewelry, basketry, and utensils, as well as contemporary artists' interpretations of Native traditions.
