Artist Check-in & Painting Time:

Artist Check-in will start at 9 am on Friday, July 15 at the Walters Cultural Arts Center. There is a $25.00 registration fee for each participant. Painters must check-in and have their surfaces stamped before starting to paint. Arts Center staff will mark the back of as many of your surfaces as you wish to work on, but you may enter only one work in each category.

The Open Painting Session starts on Friday, July 15 at 9:00 am and ends on Saturday, July 16 at 2:30 pm. The Figurative Quick Draw event will take place on Saturday, July 16 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Categories:

Artists may compete in three categories at this year's event: Landscape, City Scene, and Figurative Quick Draw. To enter a painting in the Figurative Quick Draw category, artists must participate in the Quick Draw event on Saturday, July 16 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Walters Cultural Arts Center.

Painting Boundaries:

During the Open Painting Session, artists can paint in two areas :

 

1) Downtown Hillsboro and Historic Main Street:

    Artists painting in the downtown Hillsboro area are asked to work within view of

    Main Street, with the boundaries being the Arts Center at Sixth Street and the

    Courthouse at First Street and between Lincoln Street and Washington Street.

 

2) Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve (2600 SW Hillsboro Hwy)

     Artists painting at the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve need to be conscious to

     stay on the trails and to keep the preserve free of litter and trash. The Preserve

     is open from dawn to dusk, but the Wetlands Education Center (where the

     restrooms are located) is only open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Figurative Quick Draw:

The Figurative Quick Draw will take place on Saturday, July 16 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on the East Lawn of the Walters Cultural Arts Center. This is an optional event for those painters interested in painting the figure. A historically themed tableaux vivant will be staged on the lawn, with the models posing for two 50-minute sessions.

Submission for Judging:

All paintings must be submitted for judging at the Walters Cultural Arts Center by 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 16.

Walters Cultural Arts Center staff members, members of the HACC and full time employees of the City of Hillsboro are welcome to participate but are ineligible to win prizes.
