Description:
This pastel painting captures the serene landscape of Jackson Bottom Wetland Preserve just minutes from downtown Hillsboro.
It was selected from 95 entries submitted by 28 artists seeking to represent the characteristic landscape, city views or landmarks of Hillsboro. The original painting will remain on view in Hillsboro, and the Mayor will present limited edition archival prints to the mayor of Hillsboro’s sister city of Fukuroi, Japan and other dignitaries as an official gift that underscores the creative identity of Hillsboro.
Bio:
Amanda Houston lives in Cornelius, Oregon. She grew up in Africa and Saudi Arabia and remembers her mother painting oil landscapes as a hobby. Early in her career, she worked as a designer for global apparel businesses, and she is currently taking the time to be an artist.
She says, “I’m always drawn to the moment when the light is most dramatic, often at the edges of our days, and how the relationships of color, composition and texture within each scene speak of a calmer, simpler place in my life. Viewing and painting these meditative landscapes allows me to find a more balanced center and revel in the beauty that exists around us. Sharing these emotional connections visually, by painting beautiful paintings is what my art is about.”
