Stuart Allen Levy’s panoramic images capture the expansive spaces and dramatic skies of Washington County. The freshly tilled fields and lush crops are a testimony to the agricultural bounty of the farmlands protected by the Urban Growth Boundary.
An Oregonian for over 30 years, Levy lives in the city, but is drawn to photograph the open spaces that show us where our food comes from. The wide vistas are intensified by the play of light against the clouds and the sense of motion they imply. Originally from New York, Levy began taking photographs in high school. In college, he considered photography as a career, but opted to become a therapist. Returning more seriously to photography once his children were grown, he studied with an excellent teacher, Rich Rollins at Marylhurst University, and made the transition to digital photography. The panoramas on view were taken with a Canon 5D Mark II. Multiple frames are stitched together using software to create a seamless image that combines a strong vanishing point with sharp detail.
Levy’s images were submitted to the Hillsboro Public Art Collection competition, responding to a call for artwork that represents the characteristic landscape, city views or landmarks of Hillsboro. For more information on Levy’s work, go to stuartallenlevy.com.
