Consumer Alert! Received one of these letters in the mail?
 |
Many Hillsboro Water (HW) customers received a letter like this one in the mail last month. This letter is not sanctioned or endorsed by the City of HIllsboro or HW in any way.
It is HW's understanding that the letters solicit customers to purchase insurance for their waterlines, which are not usually covered by homeowners insurance. Typically, if a customer's waterline breaks on their side of the meter, they are responsible for the repair and all costs incurred as part of the repair. Insurance such as this is intended to cover repair costs, which can be expensive.
The City suggests that a customer considering waterline protection service should thoroughly research any company offering such service before signing up and providing credit card information. This would include contacting the Better Business Bureau for references.
Customers are encouraged to also contact their current homeowner insurance agency and ask for a quote to include a waterline insurance rider on their current policy for comparison.
The City of Hillsboro does not require waterline insurance. It is completely up to the customer's discretion whether such a policy would be beneficial.
If you have further questions for Hillsboro Water regarding this letter or waterline insurance policies in general, please call (503) 615-6702.
