Mitsuki Dazai & Friends, featuring Joe Powers

Mitsuki Dazai, originally from Tokyo, enjoys introducing her lovely koto music to the diverse cultures of the world. She has performed professionally throughout Japan, America and Europe since 1997. Spoken Word: Oregon History 101 with Richard Engeman
Public historian and archivist Richard Engeman boasts an impressive record when it comes to regional knowledge: most recently the public historian of the Oregon Historical Society, he has been researching, writing about, and sharing Pacific Northwest history for decades. For his appearance at Spoken Word, Mr. Engeman will present an illustrated, high-level flyover of Oregon's history in 49 illustrations and 49 minutes.

Sampradaya: Traditions from Temple to Theater

Sampradaya dance ballet is designed for global audiences. The production is choreographed in classical Bharatanatyam dance to chants from ancient scriptures and the music and rhythm of ancient India. This dance recital is presented by the Jayanthi Raman Dance Company with live music accompaniment.

Spoken Word: Hearing Voices Storytelling Festival with Storyteller Leslie Slape
For the fourth year in a row, we are pleased to be a part of the HEARING VOICES STORYTELLING FESTIVAL through Washington County Cooperative Library Services. Oregon storyteller Leslie Slape has been widely lauded as a master of the narrative art. Tonight's presentation, "The Feather of the Firebird," honors her paternal grandfather, who was born in Russia.

Spoken Word: Pet Loss: How Art Can Help Us Heal with Enid Traisman
Many of us have coped with the loss of a pet, but have feared that our loss will be trivialized if we air our grief in public. Enid Traisman knows better. A social worker and certified grief counselor, she has run the Pet Loss Support program at Portland's DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital for the last 23 years. She is also a fused glass artist (see image left) who uses art therapy in the healing process. Tonight, in addition to giving a talk about her work with pet loss, Ms. Traisman will lead a hands-on art activity for audience members to celebrate and remember their beloved pets.
